About NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology)

NAIT (the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) is Alberta's other flagship polytechnic, delivering the full electrician apprenticeship technical training — four periods over four years — in Edmonton.

Edmonton is Alberta's capital and a hub for industrial, energy and construction employers across the north of the province.

Admissions: In Alberta, electrician is a designated trade: you need an employer to sponsor your apprenticeship (registered with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training), then complete four periods of technical training at an AIT-approved institution like NAIT plus on-the-job hours — about 7,200 hours total — and pass the journeyperson exams for your certificate with Red Seal. Confirm current prerequisites and intakes with NAIT before applying. (Current as of 2026.)
